A Clinical Study on Acute Ligamentous Injuries of the Knee

Abstract
Recently, details of the anatomy, functions and biomechanics of the knee have been documented and abundent studies for accurate diagnosis, treatment and its evaluation of the injuried knees have been reported.
The basis for all assessments is a knowledge of functional synergism, that is ligaments act in concert rather than individually, to carry out a given function.
Determination of the nature of injury and its degree still remains the most important factor for sucessful treatment of the injuried knee ligaments.
The auther reviewed 12 consecutive patients who were operated on for ten-medial and two-lateral acute compartment instabilities of the knee..
Traffic accident was the most common cause of the injuries and showed much combination of intraarticular fractures which might be the result of sudden forceful valgus stress rather than rotatory stress combination during the trauma.
